Limestone Idols, Oil on canvas, 90 × 120 cm

Exploring the monumentality of forms found in the Archaic Greek examples of kouroi and korai sculpture. The strict positioning of limbs in these sculptures, their pillar-like shape, and the angle from which they are seen - all add to the idea of largeness. The stylized modelling of forms shows a transitioning from comprehending a figure in a purely abstract way, to a more naturalistic way of depicting human form and deriving information from Nature.
